Bosch Display Upgrades

One of the highlights of the Bosch eBike system is the variety of displays that they offer, allowing for many different experiences with the touchpoints and controls to fit your lifestyle and needs. Some riders prefer the sleeker, lighter and basically theft-proof Purion, whereas other riders hope for a bigger display, with more features to reduce additional use of your phone or Garmin, or the ability to integrate with other bluetooth wearables.

Whether buying a new bike, or replacing an old display after theft or damage, it is great to consider what display would optimise your riding experience.

Purion

The Purion is the simplest and most affordable display. With four buttons only, it is powered from the system battery and does not have an internal clock. The Purion sits next to the left grip with easy to access controls for increasing and lowering assist and provides a simple read out of the speed and charge status.

Intuvia

The Intuvia is a bigger center-mounted removable display, with a left-hand remote for easy while-riding access. The Intuvia provides some additional information of max speed, the time of day, and compatibility with automatic shifting systems. The Intuvia does not work with many adjustable stems.

Kiox

The Kiox offers a small center-mounted full-color removable display, with more information available than the Intuvia or Purion, while still retaining the convenience of the left-hand thumb remote. The Kiox screens are customisable and include navigation features and an option to connect to your smartphone with the eBike Connect App.

Smartphone Hub

The Smartphone Hub offers a minimalist black-and-white display with a mount to hold most smartphones as the display instead. Through the COBI.Bike app, you can control the ebike, utilise navigation, weather forecast, and your music. The Smartphone Hub fits phones within a width of 58 - 78mm and a thickness of 7 - 8mm.

Nyon

The Nyon is the biggest display, offering touch-screen and still the convenient left-hand remote. It is Bosch’s most feature-rich display, including customisable assist levels, multiple user profiles, and maps options. The Nyon can pair to your smartphone with the eBike Connect App and replace your Garmin for navigation, or directly to wifi to check for updates.

Kiox 300

coming soon

Coming next year, Bosch is releasing the Smart System with a new Kiox 300 display, similar to the original 300. The Smart System uses a different CAN protocol and a different app, the Flow app, than previous Bosch systems so this display cannot be interchanged with the Purion, Intuvia, Kiox, Smartphone Hub, or Nyon. In the initial rollout, the Kiox 300 is the only display option, though the left-hand LED remote can also be used without a display.

Q & A

I have X display, what are my upgrade options?

For any bicycles with the Purion display, the system can be upgraded to Intuvia, Kiox or Nyon. If the bicycle is a Class 1 (20mph), it can also be upgraded to SmartPhone Hub.

For any bicycles with an Intuvia display, the system can be upgraded to Kiox or Nyon. If the bicycle does not feature e-Shift (Rohloff E-14 or enviolo AUTOMATiQ or Automatic+), it can also be replaced with a Purion display.

For any bicycles with a Smartphone Hub display, the system can be upgraded to Purion, Intuvia, Kiox or Nyon.

For bicycles with a Kiox display, the system can be upgraded under stricter conditions. If the bicycle features FOX e-Suspension, there are no alternatives. For high speed bikes (assist to 28mph), the Kiox can be replaced with a Purion, Intuvia, or Nyon; but if the bicycle features e-Shift, then only the Intuvia or Nyon are viable upgrade options.

For any bicycles with the Nyon, the system can be swapped to a Kiox or Intuvia display. If the bicycle does not feature e-Shift, then the Purion is also an option.

Will changing my display wipe my odometer?

The odometer information is stored in the drive unit, so the total miles your bicycle has been ridden will transfer to your new display. Only if you need to replace your drive unit will your odometer be reset.

Can I change the display myself?

You should plan to have the display changed at a certified Bosch dealer. For most changes, it requires redoing the wiring from the display to the drive unit, rearranging many of the other controls on the handlebar, and completing a firmware update through the Bosch dealer software.  For stem-mounted displays, other parts may be required as well to set your bicycle up properly.
